Day 2 Reporting and Interviewing lesson

TARGET
Students will be introduced to the interviewing process, guidelines and suggestions

- Classroom activity (One-word interview list of questions and Person Poem)
- Individual Learning Activity
OBJECTIVES
- Level 1-2 (Basic/Proficient) understanding and application of the interview process
MATERIALS NEEDED
- Reporting and Interviewing PowerPoint Day 1
- One-word Interview Questions List (it comes with an example completed and a poem that was created from the answers so that you have a example to share)
- Person Poem guidelines
- My First Interview
VERIFICATION
Steps to check for student understanding
- Teacher will do frequent comprehension checks in the form of Classroom Assessment Techniques (thumbs up, thumbs down; exit slip in the form of post-it note summary)
- Teacher can will assess student work the next day as they submit their work in the form of My First Interview
FLOW OF LESSON
- Suggested bell ringer: If you could interview anyone in the history of the world, but you could only ask one questions, who would you interview and what question would you ask.
- Teacher will present the PowerPoint presentation, students will take notes.
- Teacher will partner up students for the One-Word Interview – the teacher should do this instead of allowing students to choose – the goal is to LISTEN AND OBSERVE.
- Students will complete the One-Word Interview.
- With the interview answers that they have gotten, the students will follow the example on the Person Poem and write a poem about their interview subject.
- Students will share out their poems – teacher may want to post them on the wall – this is a tough assignment and it is something to be proud of!
- Teacher will assign the Individual Learning Activity – My First Interview

- Exit slip: Reflect on what you did today. What was one thing that surprised you most about the person you spoke with?
