Students will understand the different types of stories and how to flesh out a story to check for relevance to audience.

- Level 1 (Basic) understanding of how to generate a story idea and the different forms of stories
- Level 1 (Basic) application of determining relevance to audience.
MATERIALS NEEDED
- PowerPoint Story Ideas Day 2
- Funnel Graphic Organizer
VERIFICATION
Steps to check for student understanding
- Teacher will do frequent comprehension checks in the form of Classroom Assessment Techniques (thumbs up, thumbs down; exit slip in the form of post-it note summary)
- Funnel graphic organizer can be turned as a homework assignment to check for understanding.
FLOW OF LESSON
- Suggested bell ringer: Share a bit of what you found out on your audience survey. Who IS our audience?
- Teacher will present PowerPoint
- Students will take notes.
- Teacher will introduce the funnel graphic organizer. The point is to help students take a topic that is broad and help slowly break it apart to check for relevance to your audience.
- Students will get a chance to brainstorm a topic and use the graphic organizer in class.
WRAPPING IT UP
- Exit slip: Why type of stories do you think will be most suited to our audience and why?
