Multimedia and Managing Websites Lesson – Day Two

TARGET
Students will understand the role that smartphones play in journalism and various apps that can help with backpack journalism.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Level 1 (Basic) understanding of media asset management
  2. Level 2 (Proficient) generation of a software management system based on individual research

MATERIALS NEEDED

  1. Multimedia Management PowerPoint Day 2
  2. Compare/Contrast/Consider Sheet

VERIFICATION

Steps to check for student understanding

  1. Teacher will do frequent comprehension checks in the form of Classroom Assessment Techniques (thumbs up, thumbs down; exit slip in the form of post-it note summary).
  2. This module will include a heavy amount of independent work and research. The teacher will act as a facilitator but will also benefit from research and contribution to the assets list that will be created throughout this unit for future use.

FLOW OF LESSON

  1. Suggested bell ringer: What is the one app that you cannot live without?
  2. Teacher will present the PowerPoint. THE LAST SLIDE OF THE POWERPOINT SHOULD NOT BE SHOWN UNTIL AFTER THE COMPARE/CONTRAST/CONSIDER ORGANIZER IS DISTRIBUTED.
  3. Teacher will give distribute the Compare/Contrast/Consider organizers.
  4. The websites for the project management software are on the last slide. They are recommended by the professors at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
  5. The teacher should also consider this an opportunity to research the three suggested project management software. If the teacher has a preferred project management software program that can be substituted, add that to list.
